  • Microsuction is a safe, dry method of removing earwax using gentle suction under direct visual guidance.

  • Water irrigation uses low-pressure, warm water to flush out soft wax gently, which is different and safer than outdated high-pressure syringing.

  • No. Both microsuction and irrigation are generally painless, although you might feel mild pressure or tickling sensations.

  • Treatment usually takes 15–30 minutes depending on the amount and type of wax.

  • Microsuction is preferred for patients with a perforated eardrum. Water irrigation would not be appropriate.

  • Using olive oil drops 3–5 days before your appointment can help soften wax, especially if it’s stubborn or compacted.
