How We Treat Leg Veins at MAK Clinic

We take a two-pronged approach to leg vein removal, depending on the type of vein and its depth beneath the skin:

1. Sclerotherapy

A well-established injectable treatment that involves introducing a solution directly into larger or deeper veins. The solution causes the vein to collapse and fade over time.

  • Ideal for deeper blue or reticular veins

  • Minimal discomfort

  • No scarring

  • Walk-in, walk-out procedure

2. AFT Pulsed Light Therapy

Advanced Fluorescence Technology (AFT) is used for more superficial red or thread veins. The light energy coagulates the blood inside the vessel, causing it to collapse and be naturally absorbed.

  • Excellent for spider veins

  • Fast treatment with no injections

  • Can target multiple areas quickly

  • Leg veins can result from genetics, hormonal changes, pregnancy, standing for long periods, or ageing. Weak vein walls and valves contribute to visibility.

    • Spider veins are tiny red/purple surface veins.

    • Thread veins are fine superficial lines.

    • Varicose veins are large, bulging veins and require surgical treatment—we don’t treat varicose veins at MAK Clinic.

  • Both sclerotherapy and AFT are well-tolerated. You may feel a mild sting or warmth, but discomfort is minimal.

  • Most clients require 2–4 sessions, depending on the size, location and number of veins treated.

  • You can resume normal activities immediately. Compression stockings may be recommended after sclerotherapy for 1–2 days.

  • Treated veins won’t return, but new veins can develop over time. Maintenance sessions may be advised.

  • Yes. Our methods are safe for all skin types. We’ll customise the approach to your skin tone and vein depth.
